Don't stress up, if your windows fails to start, everything will be normal again.
first of all, you need to have a ubuntu cd or ubuntu boot-able flash
then, press computer power key then press F12, open cd drive and put your ubuntu cd inside your computer.
when ubuntu start, there will be more than two options to select. Don't select install option, but select try using ubuntu.
Your ubuntu will start as if it was installed, go to my computer or computer and then double click.
You will see your harddisk, then insert your external harddisk for backup.
Open that computer harddisk in which it was having windows before. If you want to backup only your personal data, you can open computer>users>guest/administrator/someone
copy users folder to your external harddisk, after completion you can decide what to do either to install that ubuntu or to recovery your window or to install windows again.
If you want to copy all C:/ directory, you can do that.
Thanks for your time
